Configurations that are supported in CRM’s next release (CRM 2015)

As the Microsoft CRM 2013 is being shifted and CRM 2015 is being released, the next release of the Microsoft dynamics is being looked forward to with great excitement. Similar to previous releases of Microsoft CRM, there is a need of adding and removing features from supported configurations for keeping current with technology in order to offer the best possible product.

The following operating systems are being removed from the CRM Server support matrix.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Small Business Server (For all versions)

The SQL Server Versions to be removed from the CRM Server Support Matrix are

  • Microsoft SQL Server R2
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM removed for Outlook for :

  • Microsoft Office 2007
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services
  • Windows Server 2008 Remote Desktop Services

The current plan for CRM server is such that the Windows Server 2012, SQL Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2 can only be targeted for the time frame of the next release.

It should be noted that support for SQL Server 2014 with CRM Server 2012 being explored but no decision has been made presently.

Following are the specific changes to Microsoft Dynamics CRM application

Form system

The following form items are being removed:

  • Forms of Microsoft Dynamics CRM updated in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013
  • The forms that are read optimized

These changes imply that the forms must be upgraded for using the new Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 before the next release is upgraded.

Client API (JS)

The following clients SDK (JavaScript) APIs are being removed:

It implies that if any of the above mentioned API commands are being used by the customization, there is a high possibility of the code being broken one the CRM is upgraded.

Xrm.Page.ui.getFormType has been modified so that the possible return values are quick and to remove the Read Optimized and CRM QuickForm Types meaning that we will not get two values from getFormType. But this will not have much effect on code as forms types in CRM 2013.

Depreciation of the Product’s Kit type will take place. It means that the base testing will only be done and this feature will be removed in a future release. It will therefore be advised that the customizations are being updated so that this entity is not used.

Upgrade rules

On upgrade, the database merge has been made mandatory. It implies that during the Microsoft Dynamics 2013 upgrade to the next CRM, this process cannot be bypassed.

Internet Explorer 8 and 9 versions are not supporting the CRM.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM for smart phones will not route automatically for internet explorer; instead through the main application. But that won’t be a good experience and any raised problems or glitches will be validated only on a supported browser.

2007 SDK SOAP Endpoint

Endpoint has been deprecated in CRM 2013 and will not be used any further. Make a habit of not using endpoint for any new extensions.
